St. Andrew Church Amministrazione Servizi al cittadino Turismo e cultura Manifestazioni Eventi  English version

St. Andrew Church is surely one of the oldest and most important monument of Sarzana.

Built probably between the end of the X c. and the beginning of the XI c. was rehandled in the gothic period and after during the baroque one.
It is an aisleless church with a barrel vault.

The romanesque church tower, the window with two lights above the particular 16th century portale, the wall exterior façade and the loop-holes that open on the side walls are a clear example of a primitive and sober architecture.

Recent excavations, inside of it, brought to light, besides a furnace, some finds that permit to formulate some hypothesis about its first iconography and its following changings through the centuries.

Inside there are marble sculptures of the XIV and XV century, a painting of Fiasella (The Vocation of SS. James and John) and other pictures dated between XIV and XVI century.
